EDUCATIONAL
The Education Department promotes an idea of an open Museum as a place for dialogue and approach to photography: a space for discussion and cultural growth for each person, a hub of integration and social inclusion where the pleasure of discovery becomes a tool for knowledge.
Among the main objectives is the design of educational and didactic activities to enable the public to get to know the Museum through active participation and training experiences.
There are two key themes underlying the design: image education and heritage pedagogy, with a view to 360-degree accessibility.
One of the main tasks of the Educational Service is to bring photography into dialogue with the world of education: to unite history and cultural heritage with didactics in the classroom and also outside the classroom, toward a continuous and organic relationship with teachers and students, to promote a conscious use of images as an alternative resource and vocabulary to words.

SCHOOLS
One of the main tasks of the educational department is to bring photography into dialogue with the world of education: to unite history, the cultural asset photography, with classroom teaching, but also outside the classroom, to pursue the continuous and organic relationship with teachers and students, to promote a conscious use of images as an alternative resource and vocabulary to words, to move toward learning based on a new pedagogy of the image that is more conscious and structured within the school curriculum.
Classes of all grades are offered in-depth interdisciplinary pathways that aim to analyze multiple aspects of the collection by linking to national curricula and encouraging active student participation, including the use of various supporting materials. By leveraging fun, sensory, and manual skills, the visit will be a stimulus for creativity and interaction with others.
TEACHERS
The Museum offers teachers working materials to supplement and update their training and teaching programs, linking their school subjects (Italian, literature, geography, Art History, music, physical education) to the language and History of Photography.
Various educational paths are offered: specialized guided tours, refresher courses and specific meetings with the experts who make up the Educational Department team.
The Educational Department team is always available to plan together with teachers ad hoc visits and meetings for students.
PRESCHOOL ACTIVITIES
THE PHOTOGRAPHS INSIDE THE BOOK - Seeing is Discovering
The Museum's specialist library has been deepening its study of children's and adolescent books between illustration and photography for years. Children take a walk through the library's new photo book section. Photographs and words are transformed into tools for learning to observe and understand how images work inside the book.
Objectives:
- knowledge of photography as a creative language;
- stimulation of visual perception;
- education in reading the printed and digital image; and
- ability to combine visual and verbal vocabulary
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY - A visual journey from home to school and back again
The Museum's specialist library has been deepening its study of children's and adolescent books between illustration and photography for years. Children take a walk through the library's new photo book section. Photographs and words are transformed into tools for learning to observe and understand how images work inside the book.

FEELING IS SEEING - The representation of emotions
Can happiness, melancholy, serenity be contagious?
What do I see and feel when I look at images. A workshop that dialogues between authorial photography and words, where emotions are touched and stimulated through visual awareness and collective group sharing. A workshop on “feeling” and “perceiving” with all the senses.
Objectives:
- image reading education
- activation of processes of representation of emotions: what I see and what I feel
- sharing one's story through image and word
- ability to combine visual and verbal vocabulary
- ability to activate a process of self-analysis and reflection to learn how to interpret what I feel
FAMILY ARCHIVES - Portrait photography
Have you ever looked at photographs in family albums or digital archives of your parents, grandparents and relatives? At one time, photographs were considered precious heirlooms of one's family history. In discovering a treasure to be unearthed, photography becomes a form of tangible memory, a means of sharing stories that connect generations. Children are invited to select photographs from their own family archives and then create a new story in pictures in the classroom with the museum educator. The sharing of the photographs and a small written text can then continue in class with the educator.
Objectives:
- photography as a document that tells a personal/ autobiographical story
- activation of critical processes of reading the image
- understanding of two alphabets: words and images
- development of the ability to activate a process of analysis and reflection on personal history
SECONDARY SCHOOL ACTIVITIES 1ST DEGREE
THE WORLD OUTSIDE ME
Orientation path related to the ability to perceive and understand external reality
The workshop aims to focus the gaze turned toward the world, to learn to observe what is outside of us and is part of the territory I inhabit. Students, are stimulated to dialogue on the theme of landscape, through, viewing photographs taken from the Museum's holdings. In the following meeting, the images made will be the protagonists of a personal and shared narrative.
Objectives:
- activation of image reading processes;
- recognition of photography as a medium and language;
- stimulation and visual education
- management of the emotional sphere
MY INTERIOR MICROCOSM.
Path of orientation and disorientation related to the ability to perceive and understand who we are and where we are going. An education in self-representation.
The workshop provides children with the tools to have greater awareness in self-representation through photography. It delves into the genre of portraiture and continues with the guided experience of a photo set where each student takes a self-portrait. The course concludes with class sharing of the images produced to arrive at one of a thousand narratives of one's own identity.

- stimulation of self-telling
I AM LANDSCAPE
Orientation path related to the ability to perceive and understand who I am in relation to the territory and landscape in which I live.
A path on the representation of self in the world through an autobiographical narrative and the description of an identity landscape. The workshop addresses the theme of the portrait set in the landscape in which the student is reflected. Students are invited to experiment with making different content within the frame: portraits, self-portraits, environment and landscapes.
Objectives:

- stimulation of self-narrative through the environment/what landscape represents us?
- ability to activate a process of analysis and self-reflection to learn how to interpret what I hear
SECONDARY SCHOOL ACTIVITIES 2ND DEGREE
HISTORY SEEN WITH EYES - Photography + History
The workshop aims to focus the gaze turned toward the world, to learn to observe what is outside of us and part of the territory I inhabit. HOW PHOTOGRAPHY CHANGED ART | Photography + Art History
The relationship between photography and traditional art, particularly painting, was immediately one of love and hate. The new invention was met with suspicion to the point that Baudelaire referred to it as “the refuge of all failed painters.” Through an interactive lecture, photography as a discipline, medium and language from its origins to its emergence in dialogue with other artistic disciplines is addressed.

- knowledge of photography as a language, also in relation to contemporaneity
- stimulate the connection between school subjects
- understanding the transformation of art with the arrival of photography
PCTO - TEEN AT MUFOCO, ART AS A QUEST FOR BEAUTY
The Educational Service of the Museum of Contemporary Photography proposes for the Pathways for Transversal Skills and Orientation an open and flexible educational pathway with the aim of letting students experience the museum institution in its museographic and museological aspects, get to know closely the spaces, functions, photographic heritage, the work and the different professionals involved in fulfilling the many tasks of a museum.
This is a cross-cutting project across the museum's knowledge and articulations (educational, archives, library, exhibitions, communication), sharing the project with faculty and students, alternating focused and practical training, and commissioning students with an assignment that has public impact on patrons, experts, faculty, peers, parents and the public.
Aims of the training:
- promote active citizenship
- recognize and use the cultural institution for meaningful experiences with art
- recognize and use cultural heritage as a tool for training and learning
- create bonds of familiarity with the territory and cultural institutions
Knowledge and skills:
- students analyze museological and museographic aspects of the institution
- delve into content related to the current exhibition
- produce texts for communication and texts for graphic, photographic and video documentation
- deepen their knowledge of photography, its language and history
ACCESSIBILITY AND INCLUSION
The Educational Service pursues a path of social inclusion in collaboration with qualified territorial bodies and institutions with which it shares activities and results, aware of its social role. Among others:
ANFFAS – Cinisello Balsamo; RSA “Residenza del Sole” Cinisello Balsamo; Educational Projects Office – City of Cinisello Balsamo; Psychiatric Day Care Center / Psycho-Social Center CPS Cinisello Balsamo.
Together with the relevant institutions, the department collaborates with visual artists, photographers and videomakers to create various educational paths.
Thanks to a PNRR 2023 grant – Removal of Physical and Cognitive Barriers in Museums and Public Places of Culture not belonging to the Ministry of Culture – it was intended to encourage the participation of fragile audiences and those at risk of social marginalization, promoting new strategies and tools for the mediation of museum heritage, thanks to the development of different pedagogical formats, tools and educational materials in collaboration with the Network of schools and associations in the area and with the help of experts in pedagogy, neuroscience, psychotherapy, art therapy, and communication for the disabled.

FAMILY ACTIVITIES
The Museum organizes a series of events designed especially for all families with creative workshops, activities, and games to be held within the spaces of the Museum, Villa Ghirlanda, and at the beautiful Villa Park depending on the season. Book now to spend a day together at the museum with your family!
Every first Thursday of the month a free guided tour allows you to delve into a section of the Museum or focus on a historical moment, an artistic movement or a particular theme. In the ‘events’ section the updated proposals.
CAMPUS
Summer photography campuses for children and teens
A WEEK AS PHOTOGRAPHERS
When school ends comes summer camp, for fun without stopping learning and playing! A leap into photography for all children who want to experience a magical world of emotions, lights, colors and shapes! The campus includes workshops on photography and play-recreational activities in the spaces of the Museum of Contemporary Photography and Villa Ghirlanda Park.
